Whale Watching in Baja California

Reception at airport and transfer to Cabo San Lucas, a coastal town at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, known for its beaches and, above all, its marine biodiversity.
It’s an excellent playground for divers and humpback whale lovers. This giant comes to visit every winter, much to the for nature lovers!

Every year from December to April, Cabo San Lucas becomes a hotspot for hundreds of migrating humpback whales. Witness the 40 tons of titans of the sea soaring from the ocean creating a thunderous lapping. Listen to them sing hauntingly beautiful songs underwater on our hydrophone system. Watch as newborn calves begin to explore Cabo’s calm waters. Plus, you’ll learn all about these incredible creatures from our expert Ninja naturalist guides and have the chance to help them with critical whale research that works hard to protect these magnificent giants.

La Paz nestles in an open bay on the Sea of Cortés, surrounded by superb beaches such as Bahia Balandra. A former pearling town, now a popular sports fishing resort, it boasts an inviting waterfront colonial buildings and the Museo Regional de Antropologia e Historia de Baja California.
Let’s rediscover the city of La Paz by walking through its streets and historic buildings such as the Palacio Municipal, the Teatro Juarez, the Velasco Garden and the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Paz.
The Whale Museum is an interactive museum considered one of the most important that teaches us about the life of these impressive mammals. We will then go for a walk on the wonderful Playa Balandra as well as the one in Tecolote where we will go swimming and rent a kayak.

Swim with the biggest fish in the world and live an incredible experience with this gentle giant in the bay of La Paz. The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) visits us every year between October and April to feed on plankton and krill. Most of these visitors are young, between 20 and 25 years old and have an average length of between 4 and 6 meters. These huge fish are very docile and pose no danger to people, live this amazing experience with us!
Puerto San Carlos is a small fishing port located in Magdalena Bay, 260 km from La Paz. The surrounding area is characterized by magnificent protected natural islands, where you can enjoy beautiful walks. During the winter months, hundreds of tourists come here to watch the to observe gray whales.

Come and enjoy a timeless experience to discover the immensity of nature! Accompanied by an expert and passionate local guide, you will have the chance to observe whales, dolphins and sea lions in their natural environment. After exploring Magdalena Bay, we’ll have lunch at a small local restaurant on the Magdalena Island. Finally, we’ll end our excursion by walking on huge dunes.
Located on the east coast of Baja California and protected by Concepcion Bay, the village of Mulegé is a charming stopover.

Loreto has a very peaceful atmosphere, and is well worth a visit for its historical aspects. It was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries. You can visit several of the missions that served at the time the evangelization of the people by the Jesuits. In Loreto Bay, you can observe blue whales from January to March.
Whale watching from Loreto is a world-class experience. A calm sea (hopefully), small intimate boats, and all around the sound of the breathing of these giants. Every spring, Loreto National Marine Park welcomes blue whales, the largest creatures on the planet. We also see fin whales, humpback whales, dolphins, mantas and other wildlife on this tour. We organize our excursions on small Mexican pangas with new engines, radios, shade and dry storage. The boats can accommodate from 6 to 10 people. After lunch, we’ll return by boat to Loreto.

The Coronado Island tour is a must for any visit to Loreto. Jacques Cousteau once called the Sea of Cortez “the Aquarium of the World”. Come explore this aquarium on a tour of Coronado Island. Twenty-five minutes from Loreto Mariana, you can swim with sea lions, explore bird colonies, and search for dolphins. Snorkeling from the boat is a wonderful way to observe the marine life below. After the island tour, we make a picnic stop at the beautiful white sand beaches for further exploration. In the colder months, walk inland to explore the fascinating dune habitat—in the summer, that means spreading sunscreen and swimming to spot marine life! Shady palapas and rustic baths are available on this island.

Located in the Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, San Ignacio Lagoon provides a protected sanctuary for gray whales that enter after a long and difficult journey from Alaskan waters, to mate, give birth and nurse their young. Lagoons are also vital breeding and wintering sites for coastal bird species. This experience includes two trips to the San Ignacio lagoon: the first on the day of arrival, in the afternoon, and a second trip the next morning at 9:30 am. In the evening, you will stay to sleep by the lagoon, in Antonio’s huts. A film on the lagoon ecosystem and whales will be screened and a discussion will follow with a naturalist guide.
