Tarangire National Park, named after the river
the river that flows through it, is considered to be one of the most beautiful refuges of Tanzanian wildlife, with its large concentration elephants and baobabs have contributed to its reputation. Covering 2600km2, the park is made up of low hills where acacia and giant baobab forests, swampy areas and vast plains. The park is home to resident wildlife (elephants, giraffes, felines, etc.), but also species that are sometimes difficult to observe in other parks, such as the Gerenuk, lesser kudu, oryx and even elk and greater kudu. In the dry season, large herds of zebra and wildebeest concentrate along the banks of the Tarangire River, and in the rainy season the green landscapes a marvellous sight.

Today’s itinerary focuses on exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. The journey begins with a 15-minute drive from the lodge to the Ngorongoro gate, followed by a 45-minute climb up the crater slopes. The day includes a game drive and picnic lunch within the 20 km-wide caldera, which features forested ramparts up to 600 meters high. The crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, formed from a collapsed volcano, hosts a rich variety of wildlife, including over 30 mammal species and the last remaining black rhinos. The best visiting season is from March to May. By 16:00, the group ascends the crater to head to Olduvai camp, followed by a briefing, tent setup, and a short hike to the Kopjes for a sunset view over the Serengeti plains, then returns to camp.

Located on the north-western border of the Serengeti, the Grumeti private reserve is home to a variety of resident wildlife, including lions, hyenas, giraffes, and zebras. During the annual migration in May-June and November, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores cross the Grumeti River.

Wake up early and meet at the reception for a light snack (coffee, tea, biscuits) before embarking on a walking safari with an armed ranger and a guide who will help you spot wildlife. This is followed by breakfast in the bush. Return to the camp for some relaxation time.
The afternoon is free for relaxation, with options including swimming, spa treatments, or hiking for the more adventurous. There’s also an opportunity for a safari in the Grumeti Game Reserve.
After dinner, a night game drive is scheduled between 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm, allowing you to observe nocturnal species such as galagos, genets, as well as other animals displaying different nighttime behaviors.
