O pequeno Tinamou (Crypturellus soui) é uma ave de caça furtiva, quase sem cauda, que vive no solo em planícies tropicais húmidas. Prefere a orla da floresta e o crescimento secundário denso do que o interior da floresta. Quando perturbada, foge em vez de voar. Muito raramente é vista (por vezes atravessa estradas ou trilhos tranquilos), mas é frequente ouvir assobios trémulos, especialmente ao início e ao fim do dia. A plumagem é acastanhada escura, com a cabeça mais cinzenta e a garganta esbranquiçada.
