Douglas is a biologist, nature lover, nature guide, and Master of Biodiversity's Ecology and Conservation. Douglas has always had a deep affection for the natural world. He always enjoyed being outside, especially when it involved camping, regardless of the setting—be it a beach, a forest, or a rural area. He was born and raised in São Paulo state, but when he became 18, he relocated to Rio de Janeiro state and spent four years studying biological sciences at the State University of North Rio (UENF). His passion, ecology, has always been at the center of his scientific endeavors.
He investigated the spread of plant ecology in the Atlantic Rain Forest area while in college, served as a volunteer botany instructor at social programs for three years, and most recently served as an assistant professor of general ecology.
He relocated to Mato Grosso State at the age of 21, attended the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) for two years, and earned a Master of Ecology and Conservation in Biodiversity. His primary area of study during the master's program was ethnobotany. He was an associate professor of general biology and anthropology at the Indigenous University of Mato Grosso during this time, as well as an assistant professor of vegetal morphology and physiology. He also wrote a book chapter and published research on national and international congresses.
Prior to his first journey as a naturalist guide in 2013, he worked as an English teacher, environmental consultant, and researcher on climate change initiatives after receiving his post-graduate degree. He finally realized what he truly wanted to achieve with his life after that trip, which completely changed his life.
As a guide, he enjoys pushing himself to find animals and constantly learns more about their physiology, ecology, and life history. Since his teaching days, he has also enjoyed sharing knowledge and information. This guide demonstrates tremendous patience, positive emotions, and a constant smile.
