In the afternoon, visit the Engenhos do Norte rum distillery, one of the oldest rum distilleries in Madeira. Established in 1927, this distillery still uses traditional methods and steam-powered machinery to produce its renowned rum. During the tour, you’ll explore the historic facilities and see the antique machinery, still in use today.
You’ll also have the opportunity to sample various types of rum, appreciating the distinct flavors and craftsmanship.
After the distillery visit, unwind at the natural black sand beach, soaking up the sun and the serene atmosphere. This day provides a perfect blend of cultural immersion and relaxation, setting the tone for an unforgettable adventure in Madeira.

The trail features rugged terrain, steep ascents and descents, and tunnels carved into the mountainside. Hikers are rewarded with panoramic views above the clouds, dramatic volcanic rock formations, and lush vegetation. This physically demanding hike requires good fitness, proper hiking boots, warm clothing, water, snacks, and a headlamp. Upon reaching Pico Ruivo, a car will be waiting to transport you to a nearby restaurant for a well-deserved meal.
