After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in the heart of Tarangire National Park. Have lunch at the Tarangire Safari Lodge before resuming the safari in the afternoon. Tarangire National Park, named after the river flowing through it, is renowned for its high concentration of elephants and baobab trees. Covering 2,600 square kilometers, the park features low hills, acacia and baobab forests, swamps, and vast plains. It hosts diverse wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and various felines, along with rarer species such as the Gerenuk, lesser kudu, oryx, eland, and greater kudu. During the dry season, large herds of zebra and wildebeest gather along the Tarangire River, while the rainy season transforms the landscape into a lush, green marvel. At the end of the day, travel back through the national park towards Karatu, passing through the vibrant village of Mto Wa Mbu, the Rift escarpment, and the red highlands.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. It takes 15 minutes to reach the Ngorongoro gate from the lodge and another 45 minutes to climb the crater slopes to the descent road into the immense caldera. The day includes a game drive and a picnic lunch.
The Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest caldera at 20 km in diameter with forested ramparts up to 600 meters high, was formed by the collapse of a volcano. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater’s small biotope hosts an extraordinarily rich variety of wildlife, including over 30 species of mammals and the last remaining black rhinos. The vast grasslands, swamps, and Lake Makat are home to felines, elephants, wildebeest, buffalo, pink flamingos, and hippos. The ascent of the crater begins around 16:00.

The park has around 3,000,000 animals, including large mammals mammals (mainly wildebeest and zebra, but also Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles), but also Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles and other large ungulates). In addition to the wildebeest, which dominate in terms of numbers, are also the five species that make up the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros (in small numbers) and the African buffalo.
