Trekking in Sierra Nevada Mountain: The Five Lagoons

Departure at 6:00 am from Santa Marta to the town of Palmor, the coffee capital of the Sierra Nevada. Upon arrival, you will visit the village and will be able to rest while tasting an excellent coffee of the region. Then you will drive to the small village of Bodega for lunch, before starting a short one-hour hike to Palestina, at an altitude of 1,500m. After being welcomed by the Koguis community, you will visit the banks of the river and the village and learn more about the culture of this ancestral people. Dinner and night in a chosa (Indigenous hut).

Early in the morning, you will begin a hike of about 8 hours, which will take you further away from civilization and into the natural wilderness of the Sierra Nevada. Along the way, you’ll see the changing landscapes, walking along trails next to coffee plantations and rocky mesas. Picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you will arrive at a Kogui camp of Mobu Ishbiaja, a sacred place hidden in the heart of the mountain, at an altitude of 2,900 meters. Dinner and night in a chosa

At dawn, you will begin a 5-hour walk, passing through valleys, rivers and valleys, to reach the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range. On the way, you may have the chance to see many animals of the region, especially birds, which make this place an enormous reservoir of biodiversity. Upon arrival, free time to rest and discover the lower part of the Chami lagoon. Dinner and night in a chosa, at the foot of a beautiful waterfall.

Departure for 5-6 hours of walking through the sacred lagoons. You will discover the mystical magic of the Sierra Nevada, untouched for centuries. At the highest point (4200 m SNM), you will enjoy a spectacular view of “Serankua” (the snowy peaks) and, on the other hand, of the lower part of the Sierra Nevada and the ocean.
Descent to the camp of day 2. Dinner and rest in native Chosa.

Early in the morning, return to the city of Palestina and lunch in the small town called “Bodega”. Time to rest.
